Dhaniah Wijaya, MCP, RCC (Qualifying)
Hello, I'm Dhaniah Wijaya, and I'm an associate at the Vancouver Therapy Collective with a Master of Counselling Psychology (MCP) degree from Adler University. I believe in a holistic, client-centred, and strengths-based approach, as well as being an advocate of social justice, to support diverse peoples through life’s challenges.
My counselling approach explores how past dynamics can co-create our present movement through life, and draws on the Adlerian philosophy of gemeinschaftsgefühl (social connectedness or social interest) as the core, while creating an environment of collaboration, encouragement, and insight. I offer therapy in English and Malay/Indonesian
A little bit about me.
18 years ago, I started out with a background in education as a public school teacher at the primary level, working with students and their parents to support students’ education. Since then, I have had years of experience working and engaging with individuals from diverse backgrounds and various stages of life, as an educator, facilitator and support worker.
Since immigrating to Canada, I have been a support worker at an addictions recovery home, and provided behavioural intervention to neurodiverse clients diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), some with associated risky behaviours such as self-harm and aggression, using Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA), Naturalistic Developmental Behavioural Interventions (NDBI) and Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) play-based therapy modalities.

I'm the co-founder of Interfaith Youth Circle since 2015, which creates a safe space to explore intersectional issues within faith communities, and between other faith and non-faith communities.

Adlerian therapy, developed by Alfred Adler, emphasises on understanding the whole person within their social context (e.g. past experiences, family dynamics) to understand and reorient underlying beliefs and patterns, so that they live a more purposeful and socially-connected life. It highlights each individual’s need for connection, belonging, and striving to overcome their feelings of inferiority (felt-minus to felt-plus).

My counselling services.
I offer individual and couples counselling to neurotypical and neurodiverse clients (e.g. ADHD, autism, nonverbal learning disorder) to work on issues such as, but not limited to, guilt and shame, anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, trauma, communication skills, grief and loss, and disorganisation. Our sessions together would be about collaboratively increasing insight, clarity and encouragement, while also building a customised “menu” of practical resources to help reorient your daily life.
I offer counselling primarily in English, and can also support clients who are more comfortable expressing themselves in Malay or Indonesian. I provide services in-person in Kitsilano, Vancouver or virtually anywhere in BC.
My therapy modalities and influences.
Every client is unique, and my aim is, metaphorically, to walk alongside you in your journey and honour your process, while directing a flashlight at parts that can be afforded deeper examination and reflection to support your growth.
My core therapeutic lens is Adlerian therapy, but I also draw upon interventions and tools from other modalities such as trauma-informed approaches, narrative therapy, parts work, emotion focused therapy, inner child work, acceptance and commitment therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.
My rates.
Associate therapy sessions are $160 CAD for a 50-minute appointment. All new clients are offered a free 20-minute consultation to discuss what you are hoping to work on, assess fit, and address any initial questions.
After each session, I provide a receipt that can be submitted to your insurance provider for reimbursement, depending on your plan. It is recommended that you confirm in advance whether your coverage includes services provided by a Registered Clinical Counsellor. If your benefits require a Registered Psychologist, please mention this during the consultation.
Payment is due at the end of each session and can be made by e-transfer or credit card. Direct billing is not currently available.
Book an appointment.
I offer all new clients a first free 15 minute introduction call. This helps us learn more about each other, give you a sense of what it would be like to work with me, and offer you a chance to ask any questions you might have.
