Virtual counselling across BC

We provide counselling services to individuals across British Columbia through secure, virtual sessions. Our goal is to increase access to mental health care for people living outside major urban centres, for those with limited mobility, or for anyone who prefers online appointments for convenience or privacy.

We work with clients who are experiencing a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, life transitions, relationship difficulties, and more. Sessions are delivered online by practicum counsellors completing the final stages of their graduate training, under the supervision of experienced, licensed professionals.

Who Can Access Virtual Counselling

Virtual counselling is available to individuals living in urban, rural, and remote areas of British Columbia. It is suitable for those who cannot attend in-person appointments due to geographic distance, mobility limitations, caregiving responsibilities, or scheduling needs. Clients do not need a referral from a doctor and do not need to reside in Vancouver.

What to Expect

All counselling sessions take place through a secure online video platform. After completing an intake process, clients meet regularly with a practicum therapist for 50-minute appointments. Therapy is client-centred, meaning we work collaboratively based on your goals and concerns. You will have the option to discuss your needs, background, and preferences during the intake call, which helps us make an appropriate match with a therapist.

Fees and Sliding Scale

Vancouver Therapy Collective operates on a sliding scale fee model to make therapy financially accessible. Our standard fees for virtual sessions typically range from $70 to $110 per session. During the 15-minute intake phone call, we will ask basic questions about your financial situation (e.g. income and expenses) and then propose a session rate. No documentation is required, and we do not charge any additional administrative or booking fees. Once your rate is set, it will remain the same throughout your work with your assigned therapist.

Areas of Support

Clients come to therapy for many reasons. Common concerns include:

  • Generalized anxiety and panic

  • Depression and low motivation

  • Work-related stress and burnout

  • Grief and loss

  • Relationship difficulties and communication challenges

  • Life transitions and identity concerns

  • Past trauma and PTSD

  • ADHD and executive functioning issues

About Our Therapists

Our team consists of graduate-level counselling students completing their practicum placements, which are part of their master’s degree programs in counselling psychology. All student therapists are closely supervised by registered clinical counsellors and clinical supervisors.

Therapists are trained in a variety of modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), narrative therapy, emotion-focused approaches, and trauma-informed care. If appropriate and available, some therapists may also incorporate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).

Frequently asked questions (FAQs) about virtual counselling

  • Our virtual counselling services are available to any adult currently residing in British Columbia. You do not need a referral from a doctor or a formal diagnosis to begin. Services are open to people from all backgrounds, communities, and regions of the province, including remote or rural areas.

  • Session fees are determined using a sliding scale, typically ranging from $70 to $110 per 50-minute session. During the initial intake call, we’ll ask a few questions about your income and general financial situation to suggest a sustainable session rate. No documentation is required, and the rate you agree to will remain fixed throughout your time with us.

  • Most clients are matched with a therapist within two business days of completing their intake. Your assigned therapist will then contact you directly to schedule your first session. In most cases, therapy begins within one week of the initial intake call.

  • Yes. Research shows that online therapy can be just as effective as in-person counselling for many concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and stress. Our practicum therapists are trained to provide thoughtful, client-centred care in a virtual setting, and all sessions are conducted over a secure and private video platform.
