Anxiety Counselling in Vancouver
Learn to manage worry, better regulate your nervous system, and find your calm amidst the chaos and emotions of daily life.
Understanding anxiety
Anxiety is more than feeling stressed. It is the body and the brain’s alarm system getting stuck in the "on" position, often unnecessarily. And, anxiety is an invisible companion for many people.
Even people who outwardly appear calm might feel overwhelmed on the inside by the constant noise of anxiety and the overthinking can be exhausting. Anxiety comes in many forms like generalized anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, phobias and more. Anxiety drains your energy and also makes it hard to enjoy the moment.
Some common signs of anxiety are:
The Mental Loop: Racing thoughts that you can't turn off, especially when trying to sleep (insomnia).
Physical Tension: A constantly clenched jaw, tight chest, shallow breathing, or a racing heart.
"High-Functioning" Anxiety: A relentless drive for perfectionism and a fear of making mistakes or letting others down.
Avoidance: Procrastinating on emails, skipping social gatherings, or feeling the urge to "escape" daily responsibilities.
Catastrophizing: Automatically jumping to the worst-case scenario, even when things are going well.
How we can help: Our Approach to better handling anxiety
Mindfulness & Presence
Anxiety is almost always about the future. We use mindfulness-based approaches to bring you back to the present moment, helping you detach from the "what ifs" and focus on the "what is."
Nervous System Regulation
Anxiety lives in the body. We teach you somatic techniques and grounding exercises to physically calm your nervous system. This helps stop the "fight or flight" response so you can think clearly again.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Anxiety often lies to us. We use CBT techniques to help you catch negative thought patterns, challenge catastrophic thinking, and reframe your perspective into something more balanced and realistic.
