We have opened in Burnaby: introducing the Burnaby Therapy Collective

In July 2026, Vancouver Therapy Collective opened its second location: Burnaby Therapy Collective at Metrotower II in Metrotown.

The new location brings our therapists and approach to counselling to Burnaby, with in-person support for individuals, couples, and families just a few minutes from Metrotown SkyTrain station.

For clients living or working in Burnaby and other parts of the Lower Mainland, reaching our Kitsilano offices can mean travelling across much of Vancouver for every appointment. Opening in Metrotown gives clients another option and makes regular in-person counselling more practical for people east of Vancouver. Several of our therapists now work from both locations.

Why we chose Burnaby

Accessibility to counselling means being able to find a therapist who understands what you are dealing with, works in a way that suits you, speaks a language you are comfortable using, and has an office you can realistically reach on a regular basis.

Burnaby is the third-largest city in Metro Vancouver, with close to 250,000 residents at the 2021 census. It is also one of the region's most linguistically diverse communities. More Burnaby residents reported a mother tongue other than English or French than reported English as their mother tongue.

The relationship between a client and their therapist is one of the most reliable predictors of whether therapy helps. A review of 295 studies, covering more than 30,000 clients, found that a stronger working relationship was linked to better outcomes whatever type of therapy was used (Flückiger et al., 2018). A practice with several therapists, whose backgrounds, languages and areas of focus differ, gives a client a better chance of finding that fit, so that is what we have built in Burnaby.

What we help with in Burnaby

Our Burnaby therapists work with many of the concerns that commonly bring people to counselling, including anxiety, depression, stress, grief, trauma, relationship difficulties, and major life transitions. The team also has experience in several more specific areas.

We offer counselling for burnout and work stress, including support for people working in demanding fields such as technology, finance, law, and healthcare. This also includes counselling for first responders and healthcare workers dealing with chronic stress, difficult experiences, burnout, and the cumulative demands of their work.

Our counselling for athletes supports athletes at different stages of their sporting lives, including those dealing with performance pressure, injury, body image, burnout, loss of confidence, or retirement from sport.

Trauma-informed counselling is available for people working through complex trauma, psychological abuse, grief, and difficult past experiences. Art therapy is also available for clients who want to use creative approaches alongside conversation.

We also offer counselling in Japanese, giving Japanese-speaking clients the opportunity to do therapy in Japanese and within a familiar cultural context.

For pregnancy, birth, and parenthood counselling, Burnaby clients can attend online, with in-person appointments available at our Kitsilano location.

Who you can see in Burnaby

Our Burnaby team currently includes five therapists with different clinical interests, backgrounds, languages, and approaches to counselling.

  • Chiharu Yanagawa offers counselling in English, Japanese, and Mandarin. Her experience living across different cultures and languages informs her work with people navigating cultural transitions, identity, relationships, and life in a new country. She also works with couples from different cultural backgrounds and sees clients in both Burnaby and Kitsilano.

  • Declan White works with professionals, students, first responders, and healthcare workers dealing with burnout, chronic stress, perfectionism, anxiety, and the demands of high-pressure environments. His approach is practical and structured, with a focus on understanding the patterns that are contributing to stress and finding realistic ways to change them.

  • Sydne Smith is a Professional Art Therapist who works with adults experiencing complex trauma, psychological abuse, grief, low self-worth, and other difficult life experiences. She can incorporate art therapy into counselling for clients who want another way to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences alongside conversation.

  • Arika Lee worked as a personal trainer and competitive bodybuilder before becoming a counsellor. She works with anxiety, depression, relationships, ADHD, body image, perfectionism, and burnout, with a particular interest in supporting athletes. Her work includes performance pressure, injury, confidence, identity, and transitions out of competitive sport.

  • Jordan Beatty offers counselling in English and Mandarin and has lived in both Canada and Taiwan. He works with anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, and life transitions, with a particular interest in patterns that develop earlier in life and continue to influence adulthood. His approach is person-centred and incorporates elements of dialectical behaviour therapy, emotion-focused therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy.

All five therapists work under the clinical supervision of Dr. Christopher Brown, RCC, the clinical director of both the Vancouver and Burnaby offices.

Finding the office

Burnaby Therapy Collective is located in Offices 2619 and 2620 at Metrotower II, 4720 Kingsway, Burnaby, BC V5H 4N2, beside Metropolis at Metrotown.

Metrotown SkyTrain station on the Expo Line is a short walk away. Parking is available in the building, and the office has staffed reception.

Sessions are available during weekdays, evenings, and weekends. Standard sessions are 50 minutes, with 80-minute appointments also available. Longer sessions can be particularly useful for couples counselling and some forms of art therapy.

Our therapists also offer virtual counselling to clients anywhere in British Columbia. This can be useful for people living farther from Metrotown, travelling, working irregular hours, or simply preferring to attend from home.
