Justin Morrison, M.Eng.

My name is Justin Morrison and I am an associate counsellor at the Vancouver Therapy Collective. I offer my clients a space to share things that they find hard to share elsewhere. As simple as this sounds, it’s often the first step on the road towards a new way of seeing the world.

What research confirms and what I've experienced personally is that the relationship between client and therapist is the most important part of the healing process. This understanding is the cornerstone of the work that I do. I believe that in order to make the changes that therapy calls on us to make, we need a lot of trust, and I work hard to build this trust with my clients.

A little bit about me.

I was raised in Ireland, in a culture that taught us that it wasn’t ok to talk about feelings or show vulnerability. As a person who felt a lot of feelings this was difficult for me, and it led me to struggle later in life. Gradually, through curiosity and some important relationships, I was able to find new ways to think about my experience and my struggles.

I came to this work later in life, and I like to think that I bring life experience that helps me relate to my client’s struggles. I was drawn to this career because I love to share conversations about the things that matter deeply to us, but rarely talk about.

Sometimes we get caught up in thoughts that weigh heavily on us and become a burden we feel we need to bear alone. Society tells us that we need to ‘paddle our own canoe’. Believing this can lead us to become isolated in our suffering, which inevitably amplifies it.

I’ve been in that place in my own life. I know what it’s like to struggle inside while telling the world that everything’s fine. I also know that change is possible.

My counselling services.

I offer therapy for individuals, couples, and families navigating a range of challenges, including anxiety, relationship difficulties, life transitions, grief, and questions about identity and meaning. At our initial free consultation, we'll discuss what brings you to therapy and make sure we're a good fit.

I work both in-person at our Kitsilano office and virtually throughout BC, depending on what works best for you.

My approaches to therapy.

I believe that therapy needs to be tailored to the individual, because we all have unique backgrounds and ways of seeing the world. I draw on approaches including Existential Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) and Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Everything begins with exploration. It’s important for me to attempt to understand your experience as fully as possible before we move to setting goals and agreeing how we’ll work toward them.

My rates.

My fee is $160 CAD per 50-minute session. I offer all new clients a free 20 minute consultation so we can ensure that we are a good fit, and address any questions or concerns you may have.

I provide a receipt following payment, which you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement, depending on your coverage. Please note that I do not offer direct billing to insurance providers. I recommended checking with your insurer to confirm whether counselling services are covered under your plan.

Payment is due at the time of each session and can be made by e-transfer or credit card.

Book an appointment.

I offer all new clients a first free 20 minute introduction call. This helps us get to know each other better, ensure we are the right fit before we start counselling, and directly address any questions or concerns you may have about the process.

There are several options to book a first appointment:

  • Fill out the contact form

  • E-mail us at info@vantherapy.ca and will reach out to you directly!

I look forward to hearing from you!
