How we offer affordable counselling for sadness and depression in Vancouver

Sadness and depression are experiences that many people struggle with at some point in their lives. Sometimes it shows up as low energy and difficulty getting through the day. Other times it feels like a loss of interest in activities, strained relationships, or a sense that life has become harder to enjoy. These feelings can be overwhelming, but therapy provides a space to explore them, understand their roots, and begin to find ways forward. At Vancouver Therapy Collective, we focus on making that support accessible and affordable.

Making Care Affordable

Cost should not be the reason someone cannot seek help. That is why we use a sliding scale system, with session fees that typically range from 70 to 110 dollars. The exact amount depends on income and resources, which means therapy can fit more realistically into a person’s life. We also offer a free intake call, so clients know their session rate before they begin and can start therapy with clarity and confidence. The intake call allows us to answer any questions that clients may have and ensure that we are a good fit for their success.

Who Provides Therapy

Our affordable services are primarily offered by graduate practicum students who are completing their final stage of training. They work with clients directly while receiving close supervision from experienced clinicians, ensuring both thoughtful care and strong professional standards. Many clients find working with practicum students to be especially supportive, as students often bring fresh perspective and a strong commitment to their work.

What Therapy Looks Like

Therapy for sadness and depression is not one-size-fits-all. Some people benefit from structured approaches like cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) that focus on identifying and shifting unhelpful thought patterns. Others respond to acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) or mindfulness practices, which help people build resilience and relate differently to difficult emotions. Our counsellors integrate these methods in a way that reflects each client’s needs and goals, making therapy practical and personal.

Flexible Access

We know that location and scheduling can also be barriers. Clients can choose to meet in person at our Kitsilano office or attend sessions online from anywhere in British Columbia. Daytime, evening, weekday, and weekend appointments are available, giving people more options to fit therapy into their routines. This flexibility helps ensure that support is not only affordable but also accessible when and where it is needed.

Building a Path Forward

Working through sadness and depression takes time, but therapy offers tools and insights that extend beyond the counselling room. Clients learn strategies to lift mood, practise habits that support well-being, and build confidence in their ability to manage difficult moments. Our goal is to provide care that is both affordable and sustainable.

Offering affordable counselling for sadness and depression at the Vancouver Therapy Collective reflects our broader mission of reducing barriers, providing quality care, and making therapy a resource that is accessible to more people.

We offer all new clients a free 15 minute introduction call where we can answer your questions, address any concerns, and better understand how counselling can support you.
