Vancouver Therapy Collective: Year-End Update 2025

Wrapping up one year of growth

As 2025 comes to a close, we are marking one year since the Vancouver Therapy Collective officially began its activities. What started as a simple idea supported by two volunteer students has grown into a large and committed team working to increase access to affordable counselling services across British Columbia. So far, its been a very exciting ride!

How we've expanded our team

Over the past year the Collective has expanded significantly. We now work with ten practicum and post-practicum counsellors and have welcomed two associate therapists (including Chiharu Yanagawa and Liz Vossen), with plans to hire four more in the coming months. The size of our team has made it possible to offer affordable therapy options to more clients than ever before. This growth has been supported by the clinical leadership of Dr. Christopher Brown, who continues in his role as Clinical Director and primary supervisor.

How we're strengthening operations

We have taken important steps to improve our internal structure. A clinical administrator has joined the team, the awesome Daisy Storey, to support day-to-day operations and ensure clients and counsellors receive consistent support. Our associate therapist Liz will also take on a broader operational role next year. Alongside her clinical work, she will help manage the day-to-day functioning of the Collective and contribute to ongoing development as the organization grows.

How we're expanding services

Our service offerings have broadened as our team has grown and become more diverse. In addition to individual counselling, we now provide low-cost couples counselling and family counselling. Several therapists have completed EMDR training, which has increased our capacity to offer trauma-focused care. We have also introduced new internal initiatives that support counsellors in developing specialized areas of knowledge and skill so they can work more effectively with the clients and communities they are most interested in serving.

How we're growing our infrastructure and communications

To accommodate the growth of our team and services, we have leased a new office space and are currently renovating it. Once complete, it will provide several therapy offices within one dedicated environment. This year we also redesigned our website with the support of a digital UX designer to make our messaging clearer and to improve how people across BC find and understand our services. In addition, we have begun working with someone with a strong background in communications to refine our mission and vision and to create a structured framework for sustainable development in the coming years.

How we're looking ahead

This has been a successful and meaningful first year for the Collective. We are so grateful to everyone who has supported our development, including our counsellors, supervisor, clients, volunteers, and community partners. As we enter 2026, we will continue working to expand access to care, strengthen our internal systems, and build a long-term model for community-based mental health support across the province.

Our mission remains ever the same: make affordable, high-quality mental health support as accessible as possible.

And once again, THANK YOU!
